Discussion:
IE 7 Temp Files Cloaked

Hello group,

I have no problems with IE 7, everything works correctly.

The only aggravation to me is coming from the temp file location,
wherever it may be hidden at.

I check in Documents and Settings in Windows Explorer and the file is
not there. It is still functioning because I can view the files that
are in it through Internet Explorers toolbar location of Internet
Options/General/Browsing History/Settings/View Files.

I can delete the files from the above location also.

When I attempt to access the file from Windows Explorer it is gone,
can't find it in a search, it is not hidden in the normal meaning of
the term, I have the Folder Options of Windows Explorer set to show
hidden files and folders.

My question is: is it normal now for the temp files to be hidden or
inaccessible from within Windows Explorer?

One more important thing, I guess, that I failed to mention is that I
can change the location of the temporary files through the "Move
Folder" that IE provides through the toolbar location of Internet
Options/General/Settings/Move Folder.

When I tried this, I could find the folder in Windows Explorer that I
had created to send temp files to, I called it IE 7 Temp files, but no
temp files were sent to it after browsing around for awhile.

The files still showed up through the Temporary Internet Files and
History Settings and could be deleted from there, just as before.

If your using XP, temp files are usually, C: / Documents and Settings /
Your name (or owner) / local settings / temp

I know, that is where they are supposed to be. That is where
Temporary Files and History Settings indicate they are at.

It points to C:/Documents and Settings/"my folder"/local
settings/temporary Internet files.

Upon inspection of that location in Windows Explorer the folder simply
is not there, this is with show all files check marked also.

Also, the files show up in Temporary Internet Files and History
Settings when I click on "View Files", so they are working properly
and they are deleteable from within Temporary Internet Files and
History Settings.

After experiencing this problem I decided to try the "Move Folder"
option to move the location of the Temporary Internet Files. I could
do this but the Temp Internet Files did not show up in the new file I
created for them.

I changed it back to how it is supposed to be with the Temp files
routed to C:/Documents and Settings/"my folder"/local
settings/temporary Internet files.

Hi,
You're back to the default location for the Temporary Internet Files, right?
[C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files]

In Folder Options> View> make sure you can see Hidden files and folders
*and* "protected operating system" files.

Hope this helps,
Don

Great, that is all it was, Don. I unchecked "hide protected
operating system files" and the seemingly missing temp and history
folders showed up again.

This must be something new. I never had to uncheck "hide protected
operating system files" before in order to be able to view the
temporary Internet files.

Thanks,

Charlie

Yep. I'm not sure when that happened- might have been an IE/Windows update
at some point. ;-)
