Internet Explorer is currently running with add-ons disabled

For some reason whenever I click on a hyperlink Internet Explorer starts with
the message "Internet Explorer is currently running with add-ons disabled".
When I click on the IE icon it runs fine.

Can someone please tell me how to make it start with the add-ons enabled?

Thanks

Please state your IE version and full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3;
Vista SP1) when posting to this newsgroup.

Is Google Toolbar installed and did it just autoupdate itself?

Assuming IE7, doing a Reset has fixed this for others, Sam:

I am running IE7.06001.18000 and Vista SP1

The Google Toolbar is installed but I have no idea if it autoupdated itself?

Doing the reset is pretty drastic because I have some personalizations I
don't want to lose, is there a less intrusive way?

AFAIK, only a Reset corrects this (and I believe it's related to a recent
Google Toolbar [auto]update. If you weren't aware that it autoupdates, you
do now.)

I uninstalled the google toolbar and the updater program and rebooted and it
appears that the problem has resolved itself.

While i appreciate the help it bothers me when as technical people we fall
back to the same old philosophy, "hmm, don't know what the problem is so
reboot", "hmm the reboot didn't work so let's reload the software".

Without your insight into what might have been the root cause I would never
have been able to fix the problem. Thank you very much for your help.

I have read this exchange which is the same issue I have encountered. I am
running IE7 and Vista SP1, I also have the Google tool Bar installed. Is
there a way to fix this issue without having to uninstall the Google
ToolBar...and Updater?

If you're having the same problem, no. Assuming the behavior does not
persist after uninstalling Google Toolbar, feel free to download/install

Again, if you're posting about the same problem/behavior, you should not see
the behavior after installing Google Toolbar 6.

That worked.... Strange though, after you Uninstall Google Toolbar for
IE,
it does not require a re-Boot. When I opened IE, went to this site, the
warning appeared in BIG red letters. I re-booted, all is fine.
Per your reply, it is OK to re-install Google Tootbar....the problem was
caused by auto Google update, and not the Toolbar itself, a re-install of
the newest version will not re-create the problems with Add-ons?
Thanks
