Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP2) when
posting to this newsgroup.

Did you encounter this behavior in your previously installed IE version? Do
you encounter it after uninstalling IE8?

WinXP SP3 Media Version. Did not have problem with previously installed IE
version. Did not have the problem when I initially installed IE8. Just
started having this problem the last couple of days. Noticed that someone
with IE7 had a similar problem and the possible cause was add-ons. Do not
have the problem when opening IE8 with no add-ons. Recently downloaded and
ran spybot search and destroy. So I went in and disabled the spybot add-on
and that didn't fix the problem. Have a lot of add-ons and if an add-on is
causing the problem and suggestion of which add ons to disable first?

thanks PA Bear ....

1. Open Spybot and de-Immunize.

Internet Explorer 8 takes longer than expected to start:

2. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE in No Add-ons mode:

=> Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without
Add-ons; or

=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).

5a. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?
Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed
IE8?

5b. Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

6. What third-party toolbars are installed (e.g., Google)?

Thank You PA Bear the problem is resolved. First I de-Immunized Spybot and
then completed the add0ons process. Turns out that there are two add-ons
that caused the problem:

Name DriveLetterAccess
Publisher (Not verified) Sonic Solutions
Status Disabled
File date Tuesday, May 31, 2005, 5:33 AM
Version 1.0.0.1
Load time (0.06 s)

Name {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75}
Publisher (Not verified) MyWay.com
Status Disabled
File date Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 1:56 PM
Version 1.0.1.14
Load time (0.00 s)

Also now that spybot is de-immunized IE8 cranks up much faster. Thanks
again for your help ... Joe
