My complete problem goes like this:
XP SP2 with IE7 and up-to-date with it all.
If I open IE & from the desktop Icon - no problem.
If I click on a link in an email, the browser open as per normal.
If I click on a link in Favourites, again the appropriate page appears
When I click on an internet link on my desktop the browser opens in the
background. Nothing to show not even on the taskbar.
To see it, I need to bring up windows task manager and see the page listed
there in the applications. Right clicking on the application allows me to
maximise the page and then treat the resultant page like a normal browser
page.
The only difference being that a) it still does not show up on the task bar
(that shows Task manager) and b) at the top right corner, the only control
is the close window control, there are no maximise or minimise controls.
I have disabled all add ons - nothing doing, and when the updates go
through, I disable my anti virus product (AVG).
I discovered this when I was wondering why a link had stopped working. When
I eventually went to the Task Manager to find out why the computer had
slowed down, I found the browser listed. When I maximised it, there were 15
or so tabs one for each of the clicks on the desktop that I tried.
Other links on the desktop work fine, that is links to programs or files.
(explains why the IE link works as that is to a program). It just seems to
be desktop based weblinks that behave in this strange way.
So Happy New year and will it provide enlightenment?
