Why does this run every time I open IE7? It's a real PIA.

http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx

How is it stopped as I have it set to BLANK when IE7 opens.

Make sure scripting is not disabled.

If that doesn't fix it, save the part between the lines below and paste into
Notepad. Save as Runonce.reg

---------------------Runonce.reg--------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"RunOnceHasShown"=dword:00000001
"RunOnceComplete"=dword:00000001

-----------------------------------------------------

Right click Runonce.reg and choose Merge.

To change all Windows users at once use

---------------------Runonce2.reg--------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"RunOnceHasShown"=dword:00000001
"RunOnceComplete"=dword:00000001

Where is "Scripting" to be found on the Security tab? It just has
Interent/Local Intranet/Trusted Sites/Restricted Sites and nothing about
scripting. Where is scripting located? This isn't Vista, it's a WXP.

Sorry but it says it can not import it as it is not a registry script. It
says "You can only import binery registry files from within the registry
editor." meanwhile IE7 cannot be used as it now freezes-up trying to
download http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=74005 . I'm using Mozilla
meanwhile. How can this be fixed?

once you save the runonce.reg file open up regedit.exe.
choose File>import and find runonce.reg
that should solve the problem

Please see my reply to several others above. I uninstalled IE7 last night
and now IE6 will not connect to the Internet. How is IE6 fixed so it
connects? Running Tools/DiagnoseConnectionsProblems doesn't fix the
problem - whatever it is.

I am replying to your original thread. In other threads, you've told us
that you've uninstalled IE7 and IE6 doesn't work either, and that the
machine is running Norton Internet Security.

=> If IE6 was working properly before you upgraded to IE7:

If you didn't install IE7 exactly per
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install and if you didn't
uninstall IE7 exactly per http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html, NIS's
real-time protection might be the cause of all these problems.

I'd say your only recourse now is a Repair Install; see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917964.

cf. IE7 (Un)Installation and Anti-Malware Applications
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/10/11/IE7-Installation-and-Anti_2D00_Malware-Applications.aspx

=> If IE6 was NOT working properly beforehand and you upgraded to IE7 in
hopes of fixing whatever was wrong:

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or other appropriate forums for expert
analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
