When I receive an email with a link in it, I click on it and go to the link.
However, if that link has a link in it and I click on it, I go to My
Documents????? Also, if I go straight to a website and there is a link in
it, I still go to My Documents. Help.

Are you using another toolbar? Google, Firefox? If using google disable
desktop indexing. See if that helps.

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut)
and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

FYI - I removed the checkbox for "DDE" (Dynamic Data Exchange) in the
Explorer Folder options, File Types, for both extension of "NONE" and a
description of "URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol" and "URL:HyperText Transfer
Protocol with Privacy" based on this reply that addressed a similar problem
I was having. It appears to have fixed the problem of 90+ IE7 instances
launching with the Encarta Researcher pane.

My email links are also working properly now. Previously if I clicked an
email link it would launch more that 90 IE7 instances. The settings were as
you suggested. I unchecked DDE just to see what would happen and it's
working better.

Do you know what effect unchecking the DDE may have?

Thanks,

TW

DDE = Dynamic Data Exchange
I have yet to figure out why some people need to uncheck it while having it
checked works fine for most of us. 'Tis a puzzle to me.
